DUMP File Complications

Troubles Opening DUMP Files

macOS Not Present

Double-clicking your DUMP file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open DUMP File". When this happens, it is commonly due to macOS missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the DUMP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When another DUMP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Wrong Version of macOS is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of macOS installed that's incompatible with your Dump File type. Visit the Apple website to download (or purchase) the latest version of macOS. The primary cause of this problem is that your Dump File file was created by a different (newer) version of macOS than what's installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DUMP file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening DUMP files are due to having the wrong version of macOS installed.

Additional DUMP Opening Issues

Although you might already have macOS or another DUMP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Dump File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading DUMP files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:

  • DUMP file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Deletion of the DUMP file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Partial installation of macOS that did not fully complete
  • The DUMP itself is corrupted
  • DUMP file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Drivers associated with DUMP software need to be updated
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Dump File file
