Sources of XER Problems
Common XER Opening Problems
Missing Primavera
When trying to open your XER file, you get the error "Can't Open XER File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Primavera for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your XER with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another XER application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Primavera Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Primavera isn't able to open your Primavera Project Management Proprietary Exchange Format file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Primavera installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Primavera Project Management Proprietary Exchange Format file was created by a different (newer) version of Primavera than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the XER file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening XER files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
