AC Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening AC Files
GNU Autoconf is Not Installed
You attempt to load your AC file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The AC File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to GNU Autoconf missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your AC with GNU Autoconf, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens AC files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated GNU Autoconf
Sometimes your installed version of GNU Autoconf won't support your Autoconf Script file. Installing the latest version of GNU Autoconf from GNU Operating System is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Autoconf Script file version that was created by a newer version of GNU Autoconf than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your AC file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of AC file opening issues are due to not having the correct GNU Autoconf version installed.
Other Causes of AC File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening AC files even with the latest version of GNU Autoconf installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening ACs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Windows Registry AC file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the AC file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a AC program, such as GNU Autoconf
- Your AC file is corrupted (issues with your Autoconf Script file itself)
- Malware-tainted AC file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with AC software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Autoconf Script file
