CWW File Complications
Common CWW Opening Problems
Crossword Weaver is Not Installed
When you double-click your CWW file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Crossword Weaver for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CWW file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Crossword Weaver installed, and you know of another program to open your CWW file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Crossword Weaver Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Crossword Weaver isn't able to open your Crossword Weaver Puzzle File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Variety Games website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Crossword Weaver. The primary cause of this problem is that your Crossword Weaver Puzzle File file was created by a different (newer) version of Crossword Weaver than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your CWW file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the CWW file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Crossword Weaver installed.
Additional CWW Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Crossword Weaver version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening CWW files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading CWW files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid CWW file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the CWW file description from the Registry by mistake
- Crossword Weaver or another CWW application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your CWW
- Malware-tainted CWW file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with CWW software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Crossword Weaver Puzzle File file
