Understanding RND Issues

Troubles Opening RND Files

Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) Not Present

You attempt to load your RND file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The RND File Extension". Customarily, this means that Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your RND file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens RND files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated Pretty Good Privacy (PGP)

It is possible that your version of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) isn't able to open your PGP Random Seed File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your PGP Random Seed File file was created by a different (newer) version of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) than what's installed.

Tip: Investigate your RND file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Conclusion: The majority of RND file opening issues are due to not having the correct Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) version installed.

Additional RND Opening Issues

Even with the correct version of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) installed, you can still experience difficulties opening RNDs. Other RND opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Windows Registry RND file paths that are incorrect
  • The RND file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Corrupt install of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) or other RND-related program
  • Your RND can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Your RND is infected with malware
  • Drivers associated with RND software need to be updated
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open PGP Random Seed File files
