Sources of RL Problems
Frequent RL Opening Issues
R.viewer is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your RL file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open RL Files". Customarily, this means that R.viewer is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another RL application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect R.viewer Version
In other instances, your R.viewer List File file version may not be supported by your version of R.viewer. Visit the R.LAB website to download (or purchase) the latest version of R.viewer. Most of the time your R.viewer List File file was created by a newer R.viewer than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your RL, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening RL files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other RL File Issues
Even with the correct version of R.viewer installed, you can still experience difficulties opening RLs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening RL files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for RL are wrong
- Corruption of the RL file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the RL format
- Your RL can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- RL file integrity has been compromised by malware
- RL-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your R.viewer List File file successfully
