The GBR file extension is a graphics file type that is associated with the free bitmap graphics editor GIMP software. The GIMP Team is the developer of the GIMP software. Brush settings data that is used in the program is included in the GBR file type. The Save as Brush function in the GIMP software can create the Brush Setting Data file and they stored in the Brush folder in the main GIMP directory.

Issues Opening GBR Files

Altium Designer Not Present

When trying to open your GBR file, you get the error "Can't Open GBR File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Altium Designer for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: If you don't have Altium Designer installed, and you know of another program to open your GBR file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Outdated Altium Designer

Your Gerber Format File file is incompatible with Altium Designer because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Altium Designer if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Gerber Format File file was created by a newer Altium Designer than what you have installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your GBR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

• Device drivers of the hardware associated with your GBR file are corrupt or out-of-date
• Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Gerber Format File file
