RTF Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening RTF Files
Corel WordPerfect X8 is Not Installed
You attempt to load your RTF file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The RTF File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Corel WordPerfect X8 for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your RTF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your RTF, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect Corel WordPerfect X8 Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Rich Text Format File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Corel WordPerfect X8 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your Rich Text Format File file was created by a different (newer) version of Corel WordPerfect X8 than what's installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your RTF file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the RTF file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Corel WordPerfect X8 installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading RTF Files
Errors opening Rich Text Format File files can still occur even with the latest Corel WordPerfect X8 software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading RTF files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for RTF
- Corruption of the RTF file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Corel WordPerfect X8 or other RTF-related program
- The RTF itself is corrupted
- Your RTF is infected with malware
- Device drivers for RTF-related hardware are out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Rich Text Format File file successfully
