Troubleshoot SPP Files
Frequent SPP Opening Issues
PhotoPlus Not Present
If you attempt to load your SPP file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SPP Files". Customarily, this means that PhotoPlus is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your SPP file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Outdated PhotoPlus
It is possible that your version of PhotoPlus isn't able to open your Serif PhotoPlus Picture File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of PhotoPlus if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SPP file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SPP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening SPPs
Even with the correct version of PhotoPlus installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SPPs. If you are still having problems opening SPP files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SPP file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the SPP file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a SPP program, such as PhotoPlus
- The SPP itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SPP
- SPP-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Serif PhotoPlus Picture File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
