SMIL File Complications
Issues Opening SMIL Files
Internet Explorer Disappeared
When you double-click your SMIL file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Internet Explorer for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your SMIL file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Internet Explorer installed, and you know of another program to open your SMIL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Internet Explorer Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) Presentation File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Internet Explorer. Your SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) Presentation File file was probably created by a newer release of Internet Explorer than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SMIL file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SMIL files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
