Sources of SRU Problems
Issues Opening SRU Files
PowerBuilder is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your SRU file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SRU Files". Usually, this is because you do not have PowerBuilder for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your SRU with PowerBuilder, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another SRU-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect PowerBuilder Version
It is possible that your version of PowerBuilder isn't able to open your PowerBuilder User Object file due to incompatibility. Download the latest PowerBuilder version from the SAP website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SRU file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right PowerBuilder version on your computer can cause problems opening SRU files.
Associated Difficulties Loading SRU Files
Even with the correct version of PowerBuilder installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SRUs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SRUs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid SRU file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SRU file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of PowerBuilder or other SRU-related program
- SRU file corruption
- Your SRU has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to SRUs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the PowerBuilder User Object format
