PWN File Complications
Common Problems Opening PWN Files
SA-MP Editor Disappeared
When you double-click your PWN file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have SA-MP Editor for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your PWN because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your PWN file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect SA-MP Editor Version
It is possible that your version of SA-MP Editor isn't able to open your Pawn Source Code File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest SA-MP Editor version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Pawn Source Code File file was probably created by a newer release of SA-MP Editor than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your PWN file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right SA-MP Editor version on your computer can cause problems opening PWN files.
Other PWN File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of SA-MP Editor installed, you can still experience difficulties opening PWNs. Other PWN opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- PWN file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the PWN file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a PWN-associated program (eg. SA-MP Editor)
- Something has caused file corruption of your PWN
- Past or present virus infection has affected your PWN
- PWN-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Pawn Source Code File file
