Troubleshoot ASO Files

Troubles Opening ASO Files

Adobe Creative Cloud Not Present

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ASO Files" when trying to open your ASO. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Creative Cloud for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your ASO file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you don't have Adobe Creative Cloud installed, and you know of another program to open your ASO file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Adobe Creative Cloud is Out-of-Date

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed that's incompatible with your ActionScript Object type. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Creative Cloud if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your ActionScript Object file was created by a newer Adobe Creative Cloud than what you have installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ASO file and clicking "Properties".

Regardless, most of the ASO file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed.

Other ASO File Opening Causes

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Creative Cloud will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ASO files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • ASO file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • The ASO file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Adobe Creative Cloud or another ASO application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your ASO file is corrupted (issues with your ActionScript Object file itself)
  • The ASO is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers for ASO-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open ActionScript Object files
