AZW File Complications
Issues Opening AZW Files
Calibre is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your AZW file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AZW Files". Customarily, this means that Calibre is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your AZW file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your AZW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Calibre
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Calibre installed that's incompatible with your Amazon Kindle eBook File type. You will need to download a newer version of Calibre if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Amazon Kindle eBook File file was created by a newer Calibre than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your AZW file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the AZW file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Calibre installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening AZWs
You can still experience errors opening AZW files even with the latest version of Calibre installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading AZW files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- AZW file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the AZW file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Calibre or other AZW-related program
- File corruption affecting your AZW file
- The AZW is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to AZWs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Amazon Kindle eBook File file
