Troubleshoot PAGES Files
Issues Opening PAGES Files
Missing LibreOffice
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PAGES Files" when trying to open your PAGES. If so, it typically means that you don't have LibreOffice installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your PAGES because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PAGES files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect LibreOffice Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Apple Pages Document file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of LibreOffice installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Apple Pages Document file was probably created by a newer release of LibreOffice than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PAGES file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PAGES files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other PAGES File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of LibreOffice will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PAGES files. Problems unrelated to software:
- PAGES file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the PAGES file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a PAGES program, such as LibreOffice
- File corruption affecting your PAGES file
- The PAGES is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your PAGES file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Apple Pages Document file successfully
