Troubleshooting Problems Opening SWI Files
Common SWI Opening Problems
SWiSH Max Disappeared
Double-clicking your SWI file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SWI File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because SWiSH Max isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your SWI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SWI files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of SWiSH Max is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of SWiSH Max installed that's incompatible with your SWiSH Project File type. If you've got the wrong version of SWiSH Max installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a SWiSH Project File file version that was created by a newer version of SWiSH Max than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SWI file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SWI files are due to having the wrong version of SWiSH Max installed.
Other Causes of SWI File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right SWiSH Max version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SWI files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SWIs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- SWI file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the SWI file description inside the Registry
- SWiSH Max or another SWI application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your SWI
- Your SWI is infected with malware
- Hardware related to SWIs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SWiSH Project File file
