Common Problems Opening BMI Files

Autodesk 3ds Max is Not Installed

Double-clicking your BMI file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open BMI File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Autodesk 3ds Max installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your BMI with Autodesk 3ds Max, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you don't have Autodesk 3ds Max installed, and you know of another program to open your BMI file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Autodesk 3ds Max is Out-of-Date

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Autodesk 3ds Max installed that's incompatible with your 3D Studio Max Plugin type. If you do not have the proper version Autodesk 3ds Max (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above.
