CDXML File Complications
Common CDXML Opening Problems
Open Babel is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your CDXML file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open CDXML Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Open Babel for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your CDXML with Open Babel, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another CDXML-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Open Babel
Sometimes your installed version of Open Babel won't support your ChemDraw XML File file. Installing the latest version of Open Babel from Open Babel development team is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your CDXML file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening CDXML files are due to having the incorrect version of Open Babel installed on your computer.
