Sources of C4D Problems
Common C4D Opening Problems
MAXON Cinema 4D Removed
If you attempt to load your C4D file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open C4D Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to MAXON Cinema 4D missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens C4D files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
MAXON Cinema 4D Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of MAXON Cinema 4D installed that's incompatible with your Cinema 4D Model File type. If you do not have the proper version MAXON Cinema 4D (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your C4D, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening C4D files are due to having the wrong version of MAXON Cinema 4D installed.
Additional C4D Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening C4D files even with the latest version of MAXON Cinema 4D installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening C4D files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
