Troubleshooting Problems Opening DFAC Files
Issues Opening DFAC Files
DreamFactory Removed
If you attempt to load your DFAC file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open DFAC Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have DreamFactory installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your DFAC with DreamFactory, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DFAC files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
DreamFactory is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of DreamFactory installed that's incompatible with your DreamFactory ActiveX Control type. Download the latest DreamFactory version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DFAC file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Regardless, most of the DFAC file opening problems relate to not having the right version of DreamFactory installed.
Other Causes of DFAC File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of DreamFactory will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening DFACs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for DFAC are wrong
- The DFAC file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a DFAC-associated program (eg. DreamFactory)
- File corruption affecting your DFAC file
- Your DFAC has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for DFAC-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open DreamFactory ActiveX Control files
