MAG Troubleshooting
Issues Opening MAG Files
Microsoft Access Disappeared
You attempt to load your MAG file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MAG File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Access for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your MAG because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When another MAG application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Access is Installed
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Access isn't able to open your Access Diagram Shortcut File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Access version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Access Diagram Shortcut File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Access than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your MAG file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MAG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening MAGs
You can still experience errors opening MAG files even with the latest version of Microsoft Access installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening MAG files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry MAG file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MAG file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Access or other MAG-related program
- File corruption affecting your MAG file
- Your MAG has adversely impacted by malware
- MAG-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Access Diagram Shortcut File file
