Troubleshooting Problems Opening GPH Files
Common Problems Opening GPH Files
Stata Not Present
If you attempt to load your GPH file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open GPH Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Stata isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your GPH because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens GPH files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Stata
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Stata Graph Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Stata from StataCorp is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Stata Graph Data file was created by a newer version of Stata than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your GPH file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening GPH files are due to having the incorrect version of Stata installed on your computer.
Additional GPH Opening Issues
Errors opening Stata Graph Data files can still occur even with the latest Stata software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening GPH files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- GPH file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry GPH description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the GPH format
- Your GPH can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your GPH has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with GPH has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Stata Graph Data file successfully
