Troubleshooting Problems Opening GRE Files
Frequent GRE Opening Issues
GRETEP Isn't There
If you attempt to load your GRE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open GRE Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because GRETEP isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another GRE application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of GRETEP
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a GRETEP Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of GRETEP from Open Source is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your GRE file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening GRE files are due to having the wrong version of GRETEP installed.
Other GRE File Issues
Although you might already have GRETEP or another GRE-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening GRETEP Data files. Other GRE opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- GRE file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the GRE file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of GRETEP that did not fully complete
- Your GRE file is corrupted (issues with your GRETEP Data file itself)
- GRE file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your GRE file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open GRETEP Data files
