GQF Troubleshooting
Typical GQF Opening Challenges
GrafEq Isn't There
When you double-click your GQF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have GrafEq for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your GQF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your GQF file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
GrafEq is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of GrafEq won't support your GrafEq Data File file. If you've got the wrong version of GrafEq installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your GrafEq Data File file was created by a different (newer) version of GrafEq than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the GQF file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right GrafEq version on your computer can cause problems opening GQF files.
More Causes of Problems Opening GQFs
You can still experience errors opening GQF files even with the latest version of GrafEq installed on your PC. Other GQF opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry GQF file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the GQF file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of GrafEq or other GQF-related program
- GQF file corruption
- Malware-tainted GQF file can't be opened
- Device drivers for GQF-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your GrafEq Data File file
