KSP File Complications
Typical KSP Opening Challenges
Keyshot Not Present
When you double-click your KSP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Keyshot for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your KSP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens KSP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Keyshot Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Keyshot won't support your Keyshot Package file. If you've got the wrong version of Keyshot installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your KSP file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the KSP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Keyshot installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening KSPs
Assuming you have the right Keyshot version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening KSP files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening KSP files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry KSP file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the KSP file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Keyshot that did not fully complete
- Your KSP can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The KSP is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to KSPs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Keyshot Package file
