SCM Troubleshooting
Frequent SCM Opening Issues
GIMP Not Present
You attempt to load your SCM file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SCM File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have GIMP installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your SCM with GIMP, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SCM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of GIMP
Your GIMP Script-Fu Script file is incompatible with GIMP because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the The GIMP Development Team website to download (or purchase) the latest version of GIMP. Your GIMP Script-Fu Script file was probably created by a newer release of GIMP than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SCM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SCM files are due to having the wrong version of GIMP installed.
Additional SCM Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening SCM files even with the latest version of GIMP installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SCM files. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid SCM file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the SCM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of GIMP that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your SCM
- Your SCM has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to SCMs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the GIMP Script-Fu Script format
