Understanding IMS Issues

Frequent IMS Opening Issues

IconForge Removed

When trying to open your IMS file, you get the error "Can't Open IMS File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to IconForge missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your IMS with IconForge, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you don't have IconForge installed, and you know of another program to open your IMS file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Outdated IconForge

In other instances, your IconForge Create Executable Library Data file version may not be supported by your version of IconForge. Installing the latest version of IconForge from CursorArts Company is recommended. Most of the time your IconForge Create Executable Library Data file was created by a newer IconForge than what you have installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your IMS file and clicking "Properties".

Summary: Not having the right IconForge version on your computer can cause problems opening IMS files.

Other IMS File Issues

Errors opening IconForge Create Executable Library Data files can still occur even with the latest IconForge software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading IMS files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:

  • IMS file references in the Windows Registry are broken
