Understanding PPAM Issues
Troubles Opening PPAM Files
Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 is Not Installed
When you double-click your PPAM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PPAM file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 installed, and you know of another program to open your PPAM file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 is Out-of-Date
Your PowerPoint 2007 Add-In file is incompatible with Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a PowerPoint 2007 Add-In file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your PPAM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the PPAM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 installed.
Other PPAM File Issues
Errors opening PowerPoint 2007 Add-In files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 software installed on your computer. Other PPAM opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for PPAM are wrong
- Deletion of the PPAM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 or another PPAM application experienced a flawed installation
- PPAM file corruption
- PPAM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- PPAM-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your PowerPoint 2007 Add-In file
