Sources of PPSM Problems
Typical PPSM Opening Challenges
Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 is Not Installed
When you double-click your PPSM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your PPSM file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PPSM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your PowerPoint Open XML Macro-Enabled Slide Show file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Powerpoint 2016. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a PowerPoint Open XML Macro-Enabled Slide Show file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your PPSM file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of PPSM file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 version installed.
