Common Problems Opening DEB Files
IZArc is Not Installed
When trying to open your DEB file, you get the error "Can't Open DEB File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have IZArc for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your DEB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have IZArc installed, and you know of another program to open your DEB file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated IZArc
Your Debian Software Package file is incompatible with IZArc because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest IZArc version from the Ivan Zahariev website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Debian Software Package file was created by a newer IZArc than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DEB file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening DEB files are due to having the incorrect version of IZArc installed on your computer.
Other DEB File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of IZArc will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening DEB files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for DEB are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the DEB file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the DEB format
- Your DEB file is corrupted (issues with your Debian Software Package file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DEB
- Drivers associated with DEB software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Debian Software Package file
