TEXINFO File Complications
Troubles Opening TEXINFO Files
LaTex Not Present
You attempt to load your TEXINFO file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The TEXINFO File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to LaTex missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your TEXINFO with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have LaTex installed, and you know of another program to open your TEXINFO file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of LaTex
Your Texinfo Source Data file is incompatible with LaTex because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of LaTex installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Texinfo Source Data file was created by a different (newer) version of LaTex than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TEXINFO file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening TEXINFO files are due to having the wrong version of LaTex installed.
Other Causes of TEXINFO File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of LaTex installed, you can still experience difficulties opening TEXINFOs. Other TEXINFO opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- TEXINFO file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the TEXINFO file in the Windows registry
- LaTex or another TEXINFO application experienced a flawed installation
- The TEXINFO itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your TEXINFO
- Hardware associated with TEXINFO has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Texinfo Source Data file
