Troubleshooting Problems Opening WZ Files
Common Problems Opening WZ Files
MapleStroy Isn't There
If you attempt to load your WZ file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open WZ Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have MapleStroy installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your WZ file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another WZ-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
MapleStroy is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of MapleStroy won't support your MapleStory Game Data File file. Download the latest MapleStroy version from the Nexon website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your MapleStory Game Data File file was created by a different (newer) version of MapleStroy than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the WZ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening WZ files are due to having the wrong version of MapleStroy installed.
Other WZ File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of MapleStroy will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening WZ files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- WZ file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the WZ file inside the Windows Registry
- MapleStroy or another WZ application experienced a flawed installation
- Your WZ can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your WZ is infected with malware
- Device drivers for WZ-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the MapleStory Game Data File format
