RMI Troubleshooting
Frequent RMI Opening Issues
Microsoft Windows Media Player Removed
When you double-click your RMI file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Windows Media Player for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your RMI file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When another RMI application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows Media Player is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a RMID MIDI File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Windows Media Player (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of RMI file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows Media Player version on your computer can cause problems opening RMI files.
Associated Difficulties Loading RMI Files
Although you might already have Microsoft Windows Media Player or another RMI-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening RMID MIDI File files. If you're still experiencing problems opening RMI files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for RMI
- Unintentional removal of the description of the RMI file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the RMI format
- File corruption affecting your RMI file
- Malware-tainted RMI file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your RMI file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the RMID MIDI File format
