Understanding XIF Issues
Frequent XIF Opening Issues
ACD Systems ACDSee Removed
When you double-click your XIF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have ACD Systems ACDSee for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your XIF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens XIF files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
ACD Systems ACDSee is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a ScanSoft Pagis File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the ACD Systems website to download (or purchase) the latest version of ACD Systems ACDSee. The primary cause of this problem is that your ScanSoft Pagis File file was created by a different (newer) version of ACD Systems ACDSee than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your XIF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening XIF files are due to having the incorrect version of ACD Systems ACDSee installed on your computer.
Additional XIF Opening Issues
Errors opening ScanSoft Pagis File files can still occur even with the latest ACD Systems ACDSee software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening XIF files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- XIF file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the XIF file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of ACD Systems ACDSee that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your XIF file
- The XIF is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for XIF-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the ScanSoft Pagis File file
