DAE Troubleshooting
Issues Opening DAE Files
Autodesk Maya Removed
When you double-click your DAE file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Autodesk Maya is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your DAE file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DAE files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Autodesk Maya Requires Update
Your Digital Asset Exchange File file is incompatible with Autodesk Maya because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Autodesk, Inc. website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Autodesk Maya. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DAE file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right Autodesk Maya version on your computer can cause problems opening DAE files.
Other DAE File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Autodesk Maya installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DAEs. If you're still experiencing problems opening DAE files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- DAE file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the DAE file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a DAE program, such as Autodesk Maya
- The DAE itself is corrupted
- The DAE is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to DAEs has device driver corruption
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Digital Asset Exchange File file successfully
