UVU Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening UVU Files
Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker Disappeared
Double-clicking your UVU file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open UVU File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your UVU with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your UVU, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker won't support your Movie Maker Video Data file. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Movie Maker Video Data file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the UVU file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of UVU file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker version installed.
Additional UVU Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker installed, you can still experience difficulties opening UVUs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading UVU files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for UVU
- Deletion of the UVU file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker or other UVU-related program
- Your UVU file is corrupted (issues with your Movie Maker Video Data file itself)
- Malware-tainted UVU file can't be opened
- Device drivers for UVU-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Movie Maker Video Data format
