HSI File Complications

Typical HSI Opening Challenges

Image Alchemy Disappeared

You attempt to load your HSI file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The HSI File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Image Alchemy isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your HSI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: Another HSI-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Image Alchemy is Out-of-Date

Sometimes your installed version of Image Alchemy won't support your Handmade Software Bitmap Image file. If you've got the wrong version of Image Alchemy installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Handmade Software Bitmap Image file was created by a different (newer) version of Image Alchemy than what's installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the HSI file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening HSI files are due to having the wrong version of Image Alchemy installed.

Other Causes of HSI File Opening Problems

Even with the correct version of Image Alchemy installed, you can still experience difficulties opening HSIs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening HSI files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Windows Registry HSI file paths that are incorrect
  • Corruption of the HSI file description inside the Registry
  • Defective install of a HSI program, such as Image Alchemy
  • Your HSI file is corrupted (issues with your Handmade Software Bitmap Image file itself)
  • Your HSI is infected with malware
  • Hardware related to HSIs has device driver corruption
  • Windows cannot load your Handmade Software Bitmap Image file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
