Understanding PDD Issues
Common Problems Opening PDD Files
Missing Adobe Illustrator CC
When you double-click your PDD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Illustrator CC for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your PDD with Adobe Illustrator CC, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Illustrator CC installed, and you know of another program to open your PDD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Adobe Illustrator CC is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed that's incompatible with your Adobe PhotoDeluxe Image type. Download the latest Adobe Illustrator CC version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Adobe PhotoDeluxe Image file was created by a newer Adobe Illustrator CC than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your PDD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the PDD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PDD Files
You can still experience errors opening PDD files even with the latest version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed on your PC. Other PDD opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry PDD file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the PDD file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Adobe Illustrator CC that did not fully complete
- The PDD itself is corrupted
- Your PDD has adversely impacted by malware
- PDD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Adobe PhotoDeluxe Image format
