Troubleshoot TDT Files
Typical TDT Opening Challenges
Unknown Software Disappeared
You attempt to load your TDT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The TDT File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your TDT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another TDT-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Unknown Software is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Unknown Software installed that's incompatible with your AVCHD Thumbnail File type. If you've got the wrong version of Unknown Software installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your AVCHD Thumbnail File file was created by a newer Unknown Software than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your TDT file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening TDT files are due to having the incorrect version of Unknown Software installed on your computer.
Other Causes of TDT File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening TDT files even with the latest version of Unknown Software installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening TDT files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid TDT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry TDT description
- Partial installation of Unknown Software that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your TDT file
- Malware-tainted TDT file can't be opened
- Device drivers for TDT-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open AVCHD Thumbnail File files
