Troubleshooting Problems Opening DPX Files
Issues Opening DPX Files
Adobe SpeedGrade Not Present
When you double-click your DPX file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe SpeedGrade for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your DPX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another DPX-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect Adobe SpeedGrade Version
In other instances, your Digital Picture Exchange File file version may not be supported by your version of Adobe SpeedGrade. Download the latest Adobe SpeedGrade version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Digital Picture Exchange File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe SpeedGrade than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your DPX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DPX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other DPX File Issues
Errors opening Digital Picture Exchange File files can still occur even with the latest Adobe SpeedGrade software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening DPX files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for DPX
- Deletion of the DPX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Adobe SpeedGrade or other DPX-related program
- Your DPX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DPX
- Hardware associated with DPX has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Digital Picture Exchange File format
