Troubleshoot MTM Files
Frequent MTM Opening Issues
VLC Media Player Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MTM Files" when trying to open your MTM. When this happens, it is commonly due to VLC Media Player missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your MTM with VLC Media Player, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MTM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of VLC Media Player
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of VLC Media Player installed that's incompatible with your MultiTracker Module type. You will need to download a newer version of VLC Media Player if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your MTM file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MTM files are due to having the wrong version of VLC Media Player installed.
Other Causes of MTM File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening MTM files even with the latest version of VLC Media Player installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MTMs. Additional factors include:
- MTM file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MTM description
- Partial installation of VLC Media Player that did not fully complete
- MTM file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your MTM
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MTM file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open MultiTracker Module files
