BA File Complications
Typical BA Opening Challenges
Scifer Not Present
When you double-click your BA file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Scifer for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your BA with Scifer, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your BA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Scifer is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Scifer installed that's incompatible with your Scifer External Header Archive type. Download the latest Scifer version from the Senthil Kumar R website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Scifer External Header Archive file was created by a newer Scifer than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of BA file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of BA file opening issues are due to not having the correct Scifer version installed.
Other BA File Issues
Although you might already have Scifer or another BA-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Scifer External Header Archive files. Other BA opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid BA file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the BA file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a BA-associated program (eg. Scifer)
- File corruption affecting your BA file
- BA file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with BA software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Scifer External Header Archive format
