INK File Summary

Our most recent information indicates that INK files are associated with four unique file types (the most prevalent being the Mimio Ink Data File format) and can be viewed primarily with MimioStudio, including three other known software applications (listed below). Generally, these files are considered Data Files, but they can also be Vector Image Files or Raster Image Files.

Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems can be used to view INK files. Both desktop and mobile devices enable you to view and (sometimes) edit these files, depending on the software used. INK files have a "Low" Popularity Rating; this means that they are not present on most devices.

Although there is a lot more to know about INK files, those are the most important details of these types of files. If you are having trouble opening these files, or would like more detailed information, please see our comprehensive information below.

Troubleshoot INK Files

Typical INK Opening Challenges

MimioStudio Disappeared

You attempt to load your INK file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The INK File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to MimioStudio missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your INK, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

MimioStudio is Out-of-Date

It is possible that your version of MimioStudio isn't able to open your Mimio Ink Data File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of MimioStudio installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Mimio Ink Data File file was probably created by a newer release of MimioStudio than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the INK file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Summary: Not having the right MimioStudio version on your computer can cause problems opening INK files.

Other INK File Opening Causes

Assuming you have the right MimioStudio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening INK files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening INKs. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Windows Registry INK file paths that are incorrect
  • Corruption of the INK file description inside the Registry
  • MimioStudio or another INK application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your INK can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • The INK is infected with a virus
  • INK-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Mimio Ink Data File file

Poll: Do you use a computer or mobile device more often to view files?
