Troubleshoot ICD Files

Common ICD Opening Problems

SafeDisc Disappeared

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ICD Files" when trying to open your ICD. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because SafeDisc isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ICD, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Outdated SafeDisc

In other instances, your SafeDisc Encrypted Program file version may not be supported by your version of SafeDisc. Installing the latest version of SafeDisc from Macrovision Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your SafeDisc Encrypted Program file was created by a newer version of SafeDisc than you have on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ICD file and clicking "Properties".

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ICD files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Additional ICD Opening Issues

Errors opening SafeDisc Encrypted Program files can still occur even with the latest SafeDisc software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening ICD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for ICD are wrong
  • Corruption of the ICD file description inside the Registry
  • Invalid installation of a ICD-associated program (eg. SafeDisc)
  • File corruption affecting your ICD file
  • Your ICD has adversely impacted by malware
  • Hardware related to ICDs has device driver corruption
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SafeDisc Encrypted Program file
