Troubleshooting Problems Opening SLT Files
Typical SLT Opening Challenges
Mozilla Firefox is Not Installed
Double-clicking your SLT file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SLT File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Mozilla Firefox isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your SLT because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When another SLT application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Mozilla Firefox is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Mozilla Firefox won't support your Mozilla User Profile Folder file. Installing the latest version of Mozilla Firefox from Mozilla is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your Mozilla User Profile Folder file was created by a different (newer) version of Mozilla Firefox than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SLT file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the SLT file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Mozilla Firefox installed.
Other SLT File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening SLT files even with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SLTs. These issues include:
- Invalid SLT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the SLT file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a SLT program, such as Mozilla Firefox
- File corruption affecting your SLT file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SLT
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SLT file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Mozilla User Profile Folder file successfully
