XPR File Complications
Issues Opening XPR Files
Dassault Systemes SolidWorks is Not Installed
When trying to open your XPR file, you get the error "Can't Open XPR File Type". Customarily, this means that Dassault Systemes SolidWorks is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your XPR with Dassault Systemes SolidWorks, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your XPR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks is Installed
It is possible that your version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks isn't able to open your Pro/ENGINEER Part Instance Accelerator File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Dassault Systèmes website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks. This issue mainly occurs when your Pro/ENGINEER Part Instance Accelerator File file was created by a newer version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your XPR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the XPR file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading XPR Files
You can still experience errors opening XPR files even with the latest version of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading XPR files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- XPR file type Registry entries are wrong
- The XPR file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a XPR-associated program (eg. Dassault Systemes SolidWorks)
- Your XPR file is corrupted (issues with your Pro/ENGINEER Part Instance Accelerator File file itself)
- The XPR is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with XPR software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Pro/ENGINEER Part Instance Accelerator File format
