MPKG Troubleshooting
Typical MPKG Opening Challenges
Linux Not Present
When you double-click your MPKG file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Linux for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your MPKG file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another MPKG-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Linux is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Meta Package File file version may not be supported by your version of Linux. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Linux. This issue mainly occurs when your Meta Package File file was created by a newer version of Linux than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MPKG, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MPKG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional MPKG Opening Issues
Errors opening Meta Package File files can still occur even with the latest Linux software installed on your computer. Other MPKG opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- MPKG file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MPKG description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the MPKG format
- File corruption affecting your MPKG file
- The MPKG is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with MPKG has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Meta Package File file
